Palmer's Inn Canalside Pub T-shirt $21.99 Drunk for a Penny. Dead Drunk for Two. Their tagline said it all. Most Buffalonians are familiar with Dug's Dive, the popular saloon from the early Buffalo days that sat on the Erie Canal. But little is known about the first tavern in Buffalo, established in 1798 - Palmer's Inn. A rough-n-tumble tavern established down the street from Dug's (or Doug's) where the real drinkers hung out. It ain't around today so don't go looking for it. Known more for its bison piss beer than its cleanliness, if you needed a friend, look elsewhere pal. As for Buffalo, we once had more taverns per capita than any city in the US. We've still got our fair share but I tend to consider us narely a dry town nowadays. We'll drink to that. Hell, we'll drink to anything! |
